Ad Copywriting Guide
Your ad copy sounds exactly like your competitors. That's why nobody clicks.
Open your Facebook Ads Library. Search your competitors. Read their ads. "Premium quality." "Made with care." "Upgrade your routine." "Shop now and save." It all sounds the same. And that's exactly the problem — if your ad copy could be swapped onto any competitor's product and still make sense, it's not doing its job.
The ads that actually get clicks — and more importantly, get purchases — sound like a specific person talking about a specific product to a specific customer. They call out a real problem, describe a tangible outcome, and give the reader a reason to act now. Not generic benefit statements.
Here's the framework for writing eCommerce ad copy that sounds like a human and sells like a machine.

How to fix this — step by step
Open with the problem, not the product
Don't start with "Introducing our new..." Start with the pain your customer feels. "Tired of mascara that smudges by noon?" "Your coffee shouldn't taste like cardboard." "Still sleeping on a pillow that leaves your neck stiff?" The problem hooks attention because the reader recognizes themselves. Then — and only then — introduce your product as the solution. Problem → solution → proof → CTA. Every time.
Be specific about the outcome, not vague about the benefit
Vague: "Feel more confident." Specific: "Clear skin in 28 days or your money back." Vague: "Better sleep." Specific: "Fall asleep in 15 minutes instead of 45." Specificity is credibility. Vague claims sound like marketing. Specific claims sound like real results. Use numbers, timeframes, and measurable outcomes whenever possible.
Write like a person texting a friend, not a brand writing an ad
Read your ad copy out loud. If it sounds like something a real person would say over lunch, it's good. If it sounds like it came from a marketing department, rewrite it. Use contractions (it's, you're, don't). Use sentence fragments for emphasis. Start sentences with "And" or "But." Break grammar rules that make copy stiff. The goal is connection, not perfection.
Include social proof in the ad itself
"2,300+ five-star reviews." "Sarah K: 'Best purchase I've made this year.'" "Sold out twice — back in stock for 48 hours." Social proof in the ad text reduces the need for the customer to go verify on their own. It builds trust in the scroll. Pull your best review quotes and weave them into ad copy naturally.
Write 10 variations and let the data pick the winner
Your first draft is never your best ad. Write 10 different hooks, 5 different body variations, and 3 different CTAs. Test them systematically. Let the audience — not your gut — decide which copy converts best. The ads you think will win rarely do. The awkward, conversational, "too casual" versions often outperform the polished ones. Trust the data.
