Product bundles are the simplest way to increase average order value. Instead of selling a moisturizer for $38, you sell the "Complete Skincare Kit" — moisturizer + cleanser + serum — for $89 (a 15% discount vs. buying separately). The customer gets a deal. You get a $51 higher order. Your margins are protected because the discount is offset by volume.
But most Shopify brands either do not offer bundles or do them wrong: random product groupings nobody asked for, buried on a collection page nobody visits, or priced with discounts so steep they kill margins. The bundles that work are strategic — complementary products that solve a complete problem, priced with discounts just attractive enough to choose the bundle over the single product.

How to fix this — step by step
Identify products that naturally go together
Analyze your order data: which products are frequently bought together? These are natural bundle candidates. Also think about completeness: what does the customer need to get the full result? A coffee brand bundles beans + grinder + mug. A skincare brand bundles cleanser + toner + moisturizer. The bundle should feel like the "complete solution" — not random products stapled together for a discount.
Price the bundle for perceived value and margin protection
Standard bundle discount: 10-15% off the combined individual price. Below 10% does not feel like a deal. Above 20% starts eroding margins. Frame the discount as savings: "Save $15 when you buy the kit" rather than "15% off." Dollar savings feel more concrete. Price the bundle as a single product with the savings highlighted — "$89 (Save $15 vs. buying separately)."
Set up bundles on Shopify
Three approaches: (1) Create a bundle as a single product with its own listing, inventory tracking against component products. Simplest for fixed bundles. (2) Use a bundle app (Bundler, Shopify Bundles) for dynamic bundles where customers choose components. (3) Use Shopify Scripts (Plus only) for automatic bundle pricing when items are in cart together. Choose based on whether bundles are fixed or customizable.
Feature bundles prominently — not buried in collections
Bundles convert best when they are visible: featured on the homepage, promoted on individual product pages ("Buy the complete kit and save $15"), shown as a cross-sell at cart, and promoted in email campaigns. A bundle buried on page 3 of a collection does nothing. Treat your top bundle as a hero product with prominent placement.
Test and optimize bundle performance
Track: bundle conversion rate vs. individual product conversion, AOV impact, and margin impact. A/B test different bundle compositions, discount levels, and placements. Some bundles will outperform others — double down on winners. Retire underperformers and test new combinations quarterly.
