LCP (Largest Contentful Paint)

Quick definition

A Core Web Vital measuring how long the largest above-the-fold element takes to render. Target: under 2.5 seconds.

What it actually means

LCP measures perceived loading speed — how fast the main image, headline, or hero block becomes visible. Common DTC culprits for slow LCP: unoptimized hero images (use WebP, srcset, preload), render-blocking third-party scripts (review widgets, popup apps), heavy theme JavaScript, slow Shopify metafield queries. Every 100ms improvement in LCP correlates with ~1% lift in conversion rate at the median. LCP under 2.5s is the threshold for "Good" rating.
