Internal Linking

Quick definition

Hyperlinks from one page on your site to another. Distributes ranking authority and helps search engines understand topic structure.

What it actually means

Internal links serve two functions: pass page authority between pages, and signal topical relationships. A well-linked content hub (pillar/cluster model) ranks dramatically higher than scattered, disconnected posts. Best practices: 5-10 contextual internal links per long-form post, descriptive anchor text (not "click here"), link from high-authority pages to new content to accelerate indexing, and orphan-page audits (no page should have zero internal links). Tools: Screaming Frog, Ahrefs Site Audit.
