Email Platform Comparison

Drip is fine. Klaviyo is built to make you money.

Drip and Klaviyo both target eCommerce brands. Both integrate with Shopify. Both have visual workflow builders. On paper, they look similar. In practice, the revenue difference is significant.

Drip is a solid, user-friendly email marketing tool that does the basics well. Klaviyo is an eCommerce data engine that happens to send emails. The difference shows up in segmentation depth, predictive analytics, and revenue attribution — the things that turn email from a "nice channel" into 30-40% of your total revenue.

We're a Klaviyo Gold Partner, so we have a bias. But we earned it by watching the numbers across 150+ brands.

Revenue Driven

We've managed accounts on both platforms. Drip is genuinely easy to use and does a great job for smaller stores that want email marketing without a learning curve. But as stores grow past $50K/month in revenue, the limitations become clear. Klaviyo's data depth — predictive analytics, real-time behavioral segmentation, deep Shopify integration — gives you tools that directly translate to higher email revenue.

Klaviyo vs Drip — feature by feature

FeatureKlaviyoDrip
Shopify IntegrationDeepest integration of any email platform. Real-time browsing data, predictive analytics, product feeds, and Shopify Flow triggers.Good Shopify integration. Syncs orders and customer data. But no real-time browsing data or predictive analytics from Shopify data.
SegmentationBehavioral + predictive segments. Filter by predicted LTV, churn risk, browse behavior, and any custom property. Segments update in real time.Tag-based and event-based segmentation. Works well for standard eCommerce use cases. Less depth for advanced behavioral targeting.
Analytics & AttributionRevenue attribution per flow, campaign, and segment. Predictive analytics (CLV, churn probability, next order date). Cohort analysis.Campaign-level analytics with revenue tracking. Solid reporting but no predictive metrics or segment-level deep dives.
SMS MarketingBuilt-in SMS alongside email in unified flows. One platform, one customer profile, unified consent management. No native SMS. Requires a third-party tool (Postscript, Attentive) which adds cost and complexity.
Ease of UsePowerful but has a learning curve. Best results come from someone who knows the platform — either in-house or an agency.Very user-friendly. Clean interface, intuitive workflow builder. One of the easiest eCommerce email tools to learn.
Pricing (5,000 contacts)Around $100/month. Gets expensive at scale but the revenue per dollar spent is dramatically better for eCommerce.Around $89/month. Competitive pricing. Better value at the lower end if you don't need advanced features.
Automation / FlowsAdvanced visual builder with conditional splits, A/B testing within flows, and triggers from any Shopify event or custom metric.Good visual workflow builder. Covers standard eCommerce automations. Less flexibility for complex conditional logic.

Our recommendation

For eCommerce brands doing $50K+ per month, Klaviyo is the clear pick. The predictive analytics, segmentation depth, and built-in SMS justify the price difference. We see Klaviyo-managed accounts drive 30-40% of total revenue from email vs. 15-25% with Drip.

Drip is a great tool for smaller stores or brands where email is one of many hats the founder wears. It's easier to set up, easier to learn, and covers the basics well. No shame in starting with Drip and migrating to Klaviyo when you outgrow it.

Pick Klaviyo if...

Pick Klaviyo if you're serious about email as a revenue channel, if you sell on Shopify, or if you want email + SMS in one platform. The investment pays for itself when managed properly.

Pick Drip if...

Pick Drip if you're a smaller store, value simplicity over power, or don't have someone dedicated to email marketing. It does the core job well at a fair price.
