Klaviyo vs Brevo 2026: Which Email Platform for eCommerce?

You're comparing Klaviyo and Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) and the price difference is making you pause. Brevo is half the cost — sometimes less. At 50,000 contacts, Klaviyo is $720/month. Brevo is around $250/month. That's $5,600/year in savings.

But here's the hard truth: for any Shopify brand serious about email as a revenue channel, Klaviyo is worth the delta. Brevo is a solid general-purpose email tool. Klaviyo is an eCommerce retention platform. The feature gap isn't subtle.

That said, Brevo has legitimate use cases. Let me show you exactly what those are — and when the price advantage actually matters.

The Quick Answer

Klaviyo wins on: eCommerce-specific features, Shopify integration depth, behavioral triggers, segmentation sophistication, predictive analytics, and ecosystem integrations.

Brevo wins on: pricing (significantly cheaper at every tier), multichannel support (email + SMS + WhatsApp in one plan), and transactional email infrastructure.

If email drives 25%+ of your revenue (or should), Klaviyo is the right choice. If you're under $500k ARR with basic email needs, Brevo is a defensible starting point.

Side-by-Side Feature Comparison

FeatureKlaviyoBrevo
Shopify integration✅ Native, real-time⚠️ API-based, sync delays
Behavioral triggers✅ Granular (viewed 3x, browsed twice)⚠️ Basic (purchased, abandoned cart)
Segmentation depth✅ Best-in-class⚠️ Good, not eCommerce-optimized
Predictive analytics (CLV, churn)✅ Yes❌ No
Product recommendations✅ Dynamic, behavioral⚠️ Static, manual
A/B testing✅ Flows + campaigns⚠️ Campaigns only
SMS + WhatsApp⚠️ SMS yes, WhatsApp no✅ Both included
Third-party integrations✅ 350+✅ 150+
Transactional email✅ Yes✅ Yes (better infrastructure)
Landing pages❌ No✅ Yes
Free plan✅ 250 contacts, unlimited sends✅ Unlimited contacts, 300 emails/day
Entry paid plan$20/month (500 contacts)$9/month (5,000 emails/month)

The table makes the trade-off clear: Brevo is cheaper and includes more channels. Klaviyo is deeper for eCommerce retention.

Pricing Comparison

This is where Brevo looks most attractive.

Klaviyo Pricing (2026)

Email-only:

  • Free: Up to 250 contacts
  • $20/month: 500 contacts
  • $30/month: 1,000 contacts
  • $100/month: 5,000 contacts
  • $175/month: 10,000 contacts
  • $400/month: 25,000 contacts
  • $720/month: 50,000 contacts
  • $1,380/month: 100,000 contacts

SMS: Metered per segment, ~$0.015 per message in US

Brevo Pricing (2026)

Email:

  • Free: Unlimited contacts, 300 emails/day (~9,000/month)
  • Starter: $9/month (5,000 emails/month, up to 500 contacts effectively)
  • Business: $18/month (20,000 emails/month)
  • ~$58/month for unlimited emails at 10,000 contacts
  • ~$249/month for unlimited emails at 50,000 contacts

SMS & WhatsApp: Metered add-on, competitive pricing

At 50,000 contacts, Brevo costs $249/month vs Klaviyo's $720/month. That's a $471/month difference, or $5,652/year.

But context matters: if Klaviyo's segmentation and automation drive even a 5% lift in email revenue, that gap pays for itself. A $2M ARR brand with 30% email attribution is generating $600k from email. A 5% lift is $30k/year. The Klaviyo premium is $5.6k/year. The ROI is obvious.

When Klaviyo Wins (90% of Shopify Brands)

Choose Klaviyo if:

1. Email should drive 25%+ of revenue — Klaviyo's segmentation and flows make 30-45% email attribution realistic. Brevo's feature set caps contribution around 15-20%. The platform determines the ceiling.

2. You need behavioral triggers — "Viewed product 3x without buying," "browsed category twice in 7 days," "predicted to churn" — these triggers power high-converting flows. Brevo's automation is event-based (purchased, abandoned cart) but not behaviorally sophisticated.

3. You're growing fast — Brands that start on Brevo typically migrate to Klaviyo within 12-18 months. If you're at $500k ARR and targeting $2M, start on the platform you'll want at scale. The migration tax is real.

4. You use third-party tools — Klaviyo integrates with 350+ eCommerce apps (subscriptions, reviews, loyalty, support). Brevo's ecosystem is smaller. If you're running Recharge, Yotpo, Gorgias, and LoyaltyLion, Klaviyo connects them all.

5. You need predictive analytics — Klaviyo surfaces CLV, churn risk, and predicted next purchase date on every profile. These power VIP segments and replenishment flows. Brevo doesn't have predictive features.

When Brevo Wins (Budget-Conscious Scenarios)

Choose Brevo if:

1. You're pre-revenue or under $250k ARR — Email isn't your primary channel yet. You need basic automation without premium pricing. Brevo's free plan (unlimited contacts, 300 emails/day) lets you start for $0.

2. Budget is genuinely tight — If $720/month for Klaviyo at 50k contacts is prohibitive, Brevo at $249/month is a rational compromise. You'll sacrifice some revenue potential, but having email marketing at all is better than none.

3. You need WhatsApp — Brevo includes WhatsApp natively. Klaviyo doesn't support WhatsApp. If WhatsApp is a meaningful channel for your market (MENA, India, parts of Europe), Brevo offers it out of the box.

4. Email is supplementary — If you're a B2B service business or a local retailer using Shopify, and email is just order confirmations + occasional campaigns, Brevo's feature set is sufficient.

5. You're testing email as a channel — If you're not sure email will work for your business, starting on Brevo's free plan is low-risk. You can always migrate to Klaviyo later.

eCommerce Features: The Real Gap

This is where Klaviyo's premium becomes obvious.

Shopify integration depth:

  • Klaviyo: Syncs every product view, add-to-cart, checkout start, order, refund — in real time. Historical sync up to 5 years. Customer properties (total spend, order count, predicted LTV) auto-populate.
  • Brevo: Syncs orders and customer profiles via API. No real-time event tracking. No behavioral data. Limited historical depth.

Segmentation:

  • Klaviyo: "Has viewed Product X 3+ times without buying AND has opened an email in last 30 days AND predicted LTV > $200."
  • Brevo: "Has made a purchase AND opened an email." Basic boolean logic, no behavioral depth.

Product recommendations:

  • Klaviyo: Dynamic blocks based on browsing history, purchase history, and collaborative filtering ("customers who bought X also bought Y").
  • Brevo: Static product blocks you manually configure. No dynamic recommendations.

Flows:

  • Klaviyo: Abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, win-back, replenishment, VIP, sunset — all with multi-step logic, delays, and A/B testing.
  • Brevo: Abandoned cart, welcome, post-purchase. Limited branching logic. No A/B testing at flow level.

If you're running a serious eCommerce operation, these gaps cost real money.

Transactional Email: Brevo's Advantage

One area where Brevo genuinely wins: transactional email infrastructure.

Brevo (ex-Sendinblue) was originally built for transactional sending. Their deliverability for order confirmations, shipping notifications, and password resets is excellent — and included in all plans.

Klaviyo handles transactional email but it's not their core strength. If you're sending high volumes of transactional emails (100k+/month), Brevo's infrastructure and pricing are better.

That said, most Shopify brands use Shopify's native transactional emails or a dedicated transactional service (Postmark, SendGrid). This advantage rarely influences the decision.

Migration: Brevo to Klaviyo is Common

We've migrated 15+ brands from Brevo to Klaviyo in the past two years. The pattern is consistent:

Why they left Brevo:

  • Hit segmentation limits ("I can't target repeat buyers who viewed Category X")
  • Flows weren't converting ("Klaviyo's browse abandonment is way better")
  • Support wasn't eCommerce-focused ("They didn't understand Shopify")

Migration process:

  1. Export subscriber list from Brevo (CSV)
  2. Import to Klaviyo (re-syncs purchase history from Shopify automatically)
  3. Rebuild flows in Klaviyo (2-3 weeks to do it right)
  4. Run campaigns in parallel for 30 days to warm Klaviyo domain
  5. Sunset Brevo

Results:

  • Email revenue as % of total typically jumps 30-60% within 90 days
  • AOV from email improves 15-25% due to better product recommendations
  • Flow revenue doubles due to browse abandonment and replenishment flows

The migration pays for itself in 3-6 months for most brands.

Real-World Use Cases

$400k ARR Shopify jewelry brand:

  • Email: 18% of revenue on Brevo
  • Winner: Stay on Brevo. Budget is tight, revenue scale doesn't justify Klaviyo yet. Migrate at $1M ARR.

$2M ARR supplements brand:

  • Email: 22% of revenue on Brevo
  • Winner: Migrate to Klaviyo. Replenishment flows and predictive churn segments will push email to 35-40%. ROI is immediate.

$500k ARR apparel brand:

  • Email: 15% of revenue, experimenting
  • Winner: Start on Klaviyo. You're past the "testing" phase. Email should be 25%+ if done right. Don't build on a platform you'll outgrow in 12 months.

The Bottom Line

For 90% of Shopify brands doing over $500k ARR: Klaviyo.

The price premium is real. The feature gap is bigger. Klaviyo's eCommerce depth drives measurably higher email revenue. For a $2M brand, that gap is worth $20k-40k/year. Klaviyo costs $5k-8k/year more than Brevo. The math is obvious.

For brands under $250k ARR or with genuinely tight budgets: Brevo is a rational starting point. You'll outgrow it, but it's better than no email platform at all.
